How to Use Home Defense Pepper Sprays and Gels - Home Defense Options for You

If you’re looking to learn more about your new home defense pepper spray or gel, you’re in the right place! First off: Store it where you’ll have access – but children won’t.
When you take your new home defense pepper spray out of its package, make sure you find a convenient place for it in your home. It won’t do you any good at the bottom of a drawer or buried in a closet. Your pepper spray might have a wall mount – use that. It’ll help ensure it is readily available but out of reach of children. Carefully choose a safe place that works for your home.

Second: Get a grip.
Take a look at how to deploy your home defense pepper spray. How does the trigger work?
Get comfortable with it in your hand, and take a moment to get a good grip on your pepper spray. It’s also smart to practice how you’d situate yourself in a moment of danger.

You want a nice strong grip in your dominant hand with your thumb on the trigger and your other fingers holding the product. The thumb is critical – this helps you have a steady hold and increase your accuracy and aim. If you’re holding a larger unit, you may want to use a second hand to help steady your aim.

Third: Spray and away.
Hold the canister in your dominant hand, and extend that arm out in front of you. You want to spray ear to ear, across the eyes. SABRE Pepper Sprays and Gels are formulated with red peppers, so the spray is naturally pigmented red – you should be able to see where the spray has landed.

If you miss the first time, steady your aim, and reverse – go back across the eyes to saturate that area, and then cover the face as much as possible. Your goal here is to take an attacker’s vision away, (and get them to focus on something else), which will allow you to create distance from the attacker, get away, and get to safety.
