L.A. Man Attacked and Robbed in Broad Daylight

On this episode of “If They Only Had a Byrna,” a man is randomly attacked and robbed by a group of teenagers in broad daylight. In August, Shailoobek Bazerby was driving through downtown city streets when a group of teenagers began throwing bottles at his car. When he exited his vehicle, they immediately attacked him and began destroying his car. As the attack continued, the suspects also stole all of Bazerby’s belongings. It wasn’t until a woman stepped in to help Bazerby fend off the attackers that the assault stopped, leaving the victim with several cuts, bruises, and a broken leg.

If they only had a Byrna, Bazerby could have used a combination of kinetic and chemical rounds to repel the mob once he knew they were closing in. Using a Byrna SD or LE, or even the TCR or Mission 4 from his vehicle, he could have used Byrna Max or pepper in an indirect manner by shooting the ground or the car to expose the entire group to chemical agents, rendering them incapacitated and facilitating his escape. The fact that one bystander stepping in and trying to put up a fight ended the assault proves that groups like these are looking for an easy target. The minute someone demonstrates solid resistance, they turn and run.

Don’t rely on bystanders or even the police to step in when a threat presents itself to you or your family. Make sure you have the tools and training to be your own first responder. Be smart, be safe, and be prepared to defend.
