How to Use a Stun Gun and Maximize Your Safety

If you’re here to learn more about your new SABRE stun gun, you’re in the right place. At SABRE, we know that personal safety is personal, so our goal is to make sure you’re comfortable with your personal safety plan, and know exactly how to use your new stun gun.

First off: Keep it handy.
When you take your new stun gun out of its package, make sure you find a convenient home for it. It won’t do you any good at the bottom of a drawer, deep in a pocket of a backpack, or way down at the bottom of your car’s center console. All SABRE Stun Guns come with a holster, wrist strap, or other carrying accessory, so your product will be ready when you need it the most. Make sure to keep your stun gun in a convenient place so that you can reach it at a moment’s notice.

Second: Get a grip.
It’s smart to practice removing your stun gun regularly from the holster or purse so that you’re familiar with how you’d situate yourself and are better prepared in a moment of danger. Take a look at your stun gun. Know that the shock probes discharge the electric shock. We recommend a test fire from a ½ to one second burst; that should be all you need to ensure the product functions. Use caution with this test fire because anything longer than a full second burst could potentially damage the product or void your warranty. Depending on the model, you can also activate the flashlight with a switch or a button.

Next: Charge it up.
For battery operated models, insert the correct batteries and make sure to read the provided product instructions about battery replacement, as these can vary. With rechargeable models, you can maximize battery life by starting with an initial 12-hour charge, and then charge it weekly for a minimum of 4 to 5 hours.

Now: Shock and away.
Once you get comfortable storing, charging, and holding your stun gun, it’s time to learn how to use it. Now, identify where your safety or ‘on/off’ switch is. Depending on the model, you can activate the flashlight using either the switch or a button. Note that the ‘on’ mode will not activate your stun gun; to activate it, you’ll need to press the discharge button to activate the shock. For the stun gun to be effective, make direct contact with the attacker’s body. Discharge the stun gun into the aggressor’s upper hip, shoulder, or below the rib cage to provide maximum impact. A full five-second discharge can cause disorientation, loss of balance, and more. Please note that, unlike pepper spray, an attacker can recover from a stun gun shock in just a few seconds. So, once you have stopped the attacker or can escape, do so immediately and call for help. Be safe, go confidently, and trust your instincts – they’re usually right.
